They are seeking an exceptional strategic and operational leader to join the Executive Team and play a key role in positioning the business for its next phase of growth. Reporting to the Chief Executive, the General Manager Freight & Fuel is responsible for the safe, efficient and profitable operation of two large and complex business units - Freight and Fuel. The role has full accountability for performance across a complex, multi-site network, with a strong focus on improving profitability, driving sustainable revenue growth, and delivering operational excellence. As the leader of a large, geographically dispersed team, success in this role will depend on the ability to develop capability and build an engaged and passionate team.
At its core, this role requires a leader with the strategic capability to develop a roadmap that includes network design, pricing strategy, customer value propositions, IT systems and tools, and workforce development. You will be expected to collaborate with Executive Team peers, and leverage a strong understanding of the New Zealand freight sector to identify opportunities for further growth. This role requires an executive leader who has an enterprise-wide perspective, able to think, act and influence beyond their direct portfolio.
Operationally, you will have a proven track record transforming processes, systems and people to deliver improved customer outcomes and stronger financial performance. You will be comfortable working closely with teams across the network, with a hands-on approach to identifying root causes and implement practical, sustainable solutions rather than short-term fixes. Developing a high-performing team will be critical and you will need to demonstrate past success building alignment, setting clear expectations, and creating accountability whilst also strengthening capability and culture.
